We wear and use certain things because well designed items bring art into our daily lives. Good design lifts our spirits, exhibits externally what we feel internally, and tells our story.
Blending good, solid design with sustainability allows us not only to improve our immediate surroundings in form and function but also to positively impact our communities both locally and globally.
Why a SKN bag?
Because, plastic bags do not biodegrade, they break down into smaller and smaller toxic bits which pollute our water, land and wildlife. In addition, fossil fuels are used to produce them. In California alone, 3 million barrels of oil are used to produce about 19 billion plastic bags per year. Paper bags? Not so fast... paper grocery bags cannot be made from recycled paper because it is simply not strong enough. Because of this 14,000,000
trees are cut down each year in the United States alone. That's 14,000,000+ less trees per year absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen.
In NYC, one less paper or plastic bag per person per year would reduce waste by 5 million pounds and save $250,000
in disposal costs.
With new knowledge come new responsibilities and the chance to change things.
